Built like a warrior, and scarred to boot, it would not be strange to assume Qutugh comes from one of the warlike tribes in the Steppe. His cold and almost robotic demeanor doesn't make his origin any more recognizable.
His physique is a direct result from his time spent in the wilds, having to fight for his own food while on the move. Although he is proud of his achievements, he seems ashamed of his own appearance, spending a lot of effort in an attempt to dress up in a way he considers masculine.

Despite his attempts to seem unapproachable to strangers, those close to him can tell that it's not hard to get him to open up. He rarely speaks with strangers unless necessary, but he can be seen getting distracted by the presence of another Xaela during work.

Backstory

Born into a caring and traditional Dazkar family, Qutugh grew up the same as any other kid, playing games with other children and helping his father with cooking. He has fond memories of playing with his childhood, but he never was fond of the idea of living as a husband, doing monotonous tasks for the rest of his life.
He wanted to hunt for his own food, to do something different. After talking about it with a friend, he decided to leave without any warning.

Leaving unnoticed, all of his expectations of a fun lifestyle were quickly shot down by the harsh reality that is nature. Every day was a fight for life or death against deadly animals, rough weather, and sometimes other people. With some learning and a lot more luck, he was capable of surviving on his own for enough time to reach Ul'dah, where he would get some much needed rest. Or so he hoped.

Unfortunately, Ul'dah is not a haven for those unwilling to work. To live in this place, he would need to tire himself as much as he did in nature, but in a relatively safer environment. He managed to get a job as a cook, but he still needed training to improve his skills in the area.
Spending his days cooking and hunting as a side gig, Qutugh regrets ever leaving his tribe. He wants to go back to living an easy life, but returning without a good reason would be shameful. So here he stays.

RP Hooks

◆Lucky Refugee: For reasons unknown to most, this weird refugee managed to find a somewhat stable life as an apprentice in one of the restaurants. Many envy such luck, but why would someone even hire someone like him? Does he actually have any talent or is there some reason behind the chef's choice?

◆Strange Demeanor: Despite his attempts to not gather attention, Qutugh's demeanor seems to do the opposite. Trying to be overly serious and professional, it's common for others to believe he thinks he's superior to everyone else. Sometimes he stares at people for far too long, too. What a weirdo.

◆Weird New Menu: With the arrival of this new apprentice to Ul'dah, one of the restaurants has been getting popular. Not because of a increase in quality, but because of a radical change in its menu. They went from their usuals to dumplings filled with meat, offal dishes, and other unusual stuff hardly seen before in Thanalan.

◆Good Hunter, Terrible Fisher: Qutugh can be seen hunting for animals within Thanalan during the afternoon. Sometimes he can also be seen attempting to fish, but he seems to be both unlucky and impatient, usually leading to no fish being caught.

◆What's your Tribe?: While he doesn't deny any correct guesses on him being a Dazkar, Qutugh seems to be sure on not being open about it. Any Xaela who has met him either already knows or was left clueless as to where he came from. His appearance and demeanor don't help in figuring out this mystery.
